The magnificent tropical town of port Douglas is one of Queenslands favorite destinations for overseas visitors. They love the luxury tropical accommodation and its close proximity to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef. Most visitors fly into north Queensland through Cairns airport and thes take the spectacular drive to Port Douglas on a road that hugs the coast and has spectacular vistas over the Coral Sea. The drive from the airport takes about an hour and a quarter. The first thing that most visitors want to do after they settle in to their accommodation is to take a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. Green Island is south of Port Douglas and lies just off Cairns. Out from Port Douglas are the Low Islands and both of these are popular destinations for day trippers wanting to visit the reef. The Low Isles are uninhabited while Green Island and Lizard Island to the north both have quality resorts on them.

Port Douglas is famous for having dozens of accommodation resorts that mostly cater for the upper end of the market. Some of these resorts are becoming well known in their own right with return customers loving the quality and the position. The Sea Temple Port Douglas is one of these and another is the Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas. There are also a number of Mantra and Sebel / Mirvac resorts.
